Document Critiques

  • Report Submittal After the reports have been prepared and submitted, they will be logged in by the instructor.
  • Peer Review Each student will then receive a report to review and return to the instructor.
  • Grade Assignment The instructor will then mark the report and assign a grade to both the report and the review. These will be graded and returned for revision and use in preparation of the design package. (Note: If the report is unsatisfactory, it will be returned for immediate revision and re-submittal).

Peer Review

A cover worksheet is to be completed and attached to the front of each team report.  And a separate cover sheet is to be included as a partition identifying each section (author) of the report.

A summary critique worksheet is to be attached to the front of the team report.  And, a detail critique worksheet is to be attached to the front of each team member's report. Complete the report critique identification (report title, report number, date, team number, team member names) before submittal of the report.

Each team is to organize and assemble the individual team member reports into a single report folder for each interim report submitted. Submit one report copy to the instructor at the times designated.

Each student will critique another team's report by checking the process engineering ideas and concepts; correcting any misunderstandings that the writers may have had; making recommendations for improvement; and noting typing, spelling, and grammatical errors.

The emphasis should be on critically evaluating the technical content of the report and providing positive recommendations for improvement of the design/report.

Using the Critique Forms

Follow the recommendations given on how to review/critique reports. Use the appropriate checklists pro- vided for reviewing reports. Constructive comments are more important than the evaluation marks and are the basis on which the review will be evaluated by the instructor. Each reviewer is to use the critique worksheets provided to record their evaluation of the report.
  1. The report reviewer must verify the reporting project team identification (report title, report number, date, team number, team member names) and fill in the reviewer identification (name).
  2. The following steps are to be followed in recording your evaluation of a project report.
    1. First read the report and write specific comments on the detail critique sheet as you make observations. Note specific recommendations for improving the design and report. Number the comments and indicate the applicable location by page and line number.
    2. Then make an assessment of the report sections in the table provided in on the critique summary sheet for technical quality and for writing skill.
    3. Then access the overall quality of the task product (analysis, design and report) and write a summary of your overall evaluation of the report/project in the space provided at the bottom of the critique summary worksheet.
  3. Attach the detail critique worksheets and critique summary worksheet to the front of the report. And, submit the report and critique worksheets to the course instructor.

Grade Assignment

The instructor will check the report and assign grades to both the report(s) and the critique(s).

Revisions

The critiques will be reviewed and evaluated by the project team at the next progress review meeting. Any noted corrections and recommended modifications should be explored by the project team and considered for inclusion before the final project final report is assembled.
